What are the American Legion Riders?

Submitted by Roberto Rullan

Simply an enjoyable post activity for Legionnaires, Auxiliary members, and SAL members who enjoy motorcycle riding--and an ideal way to support The American Legion's programs.

As the membership of the ALR is a very diverse group, so are the programs that they are involved in.

Today there exist nearly 100 Legion Rider programs in more than 32 states, and more are organizing each year. The types of things that these groups are doing are far too many to mention, but here are a few examples: Support Veterans including but not limited to the Palo Alto Veteran's Hospital and the Veterans Transition Center. Provide a military presence in our community by participating in parades and other events. Promote motorcycling as a safe form of transportation and recreation. Award a College Scholarship to a Young Patriot.

On March 26, 2006 the American Legion Riders, 28th District was officially recognized as a program of The American Legion Department of California. For more information please visit their web site at: www.district28americanlegionriders.us
